As regular readers of this blog will know, i’m a self confessed Apple Fanboy.

I pre-ordered my iPad the second Apple started taking orders and received it the day before release and i’m still loving it today.

As much as I love my iOS devices it would be impossible to ignore Google’s ever growing Android platform. I’ve checked out a few Android phones but none of them particularly appealed to me since i’m still in love with my iPhone 4.

However, there is finally an Android device that caught my attention and captured my interested.

Samsung Galaxy Tab

As I said I love my iPad but the thing that attracted me to the Galaxy Tab was the size, at 7″ and also quite a lot lighter than the iPad it’s much more portable. It also plays Flash fairly well which of course the iPad famously doesn’t and never will.

There are other features less important to me personally but that stand the Galaxy Tab apart from the iPad such as including cameras and having the ability to use it as a phone.

The Android operating system is improving all the time and whilst it’s not as slick and sexy as iOS many like it’s perceived ‘openness’.

All in all the Galaxy Tab is a great competitor to the iPad and the fact that it’s more portable makes it better to a lot of people.

Bargain

As you probably gathered I would recommend the Galaxy Tab anyway but Amazon have made it impossible for me not to due to their unbelievable price!

Zen BoundUntil Zen Bound that is!

Zen Bound is the most original game I think I have ever played, on any platform. I’m not even sure if ‘game’ is the right description for it.

Hype

I heard a lot of hype about Zen Bound but I didn’t really understand what it was about, even as I started to play I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. After just a few minutes I ‘got it’, it’s a truly beautiful experience.

From the high quality 3D graphics to the ambient music and the incredibly relaxing game play. But what does it actually entail I hear you ask, well put very simply it’s a meditative game of wrapping rope around wooden sculptures. I know that sounds a little, well dull but trust me it’s not.

5 Stars

It’s a shame that the game doesn’t have a Lite version as I know my review won’t have done it justice, check out the ratings on the iTunes App Store though, almost every single person has given it 5 stars which should say something about how good it is!

I’ve heard a lot about Rolando, it’s by far the most hyped iPhone 3G / iPod Touch game so far but does it live up to that hype?

Quite simply, yes!

I would go as far as saying that Rolando the best game i’ve ever played on the iPhone and one of the best games i’ve ever played on any portable device and I mean any portable device, not just mobile phones.

Why Rolando Is Great

Rolando iPhoneRolando is essentially a puzzle game but the best thing about it is that it’s been designed from the ground up for the iPhone & iPod Touch. Which means that it takes advantage of the fantastic iPhone multi-touch and tilt capabilities. The game play is simply brilliant and every level is so different, it never gets boring!

The visuals are perfect too, they’re cute but very stylish and smooth at the same time. The soundtrack is simply stunning for a mobile phone game.

iPhone: A Bright Future In Gaming

I think it’s fantastic that the iPhone is comparable not with other mobile phone games but with the Nintendo DS & Sony PSP! This game really sets the benchmark of what the iPhone is capable of and i’m really excited for the future of the iPhone as a portable games console.

It’s very lucky that I’ve just finished working for the Christmas period. This is because one of my all time favourite games has hit the iPhone App Store and since installing it i’ve not been able to put it down.

It’s Sim City! An all time classic which i’ve owned and loved many different versions of on many different platforms for over 15 years!Sim City iPhone

Sim City

For those not familiar (really?) with Sim City, it’s a simulation game where you design, build and manage cities. You encounter all sorts of challenges along the way from natural disasters to rioting citizens.

Sim City is pretty much responsible for all of the other simulation games which followed such as The Sims, Theme Park etc..

I could happily spend hours playing the Amiga and then PC (before I saw the light) versions of Sim City, it was probably responsible for me not doing as well as I should have at school! So of course I was excited to try the iPhone version but it had a lot to live up to and I was worried whether it would do or not.

Massive Achievement

Well i’m happy to report that it does live up to my expectations (and memories). It looks like Sim City, sounds like Sim City and feels like Sim City! For me that is a massive achievement to get a game of this type feeling so close to a PC/console game on an iPhone!

Obviously the biggest limitation of the iPhone is the screen size, which is particularly difficult for a game like Sim City, once your city begins to grow it can be quite difficult to follow. But it’s helped out by using the iPhones’ fantastic pinch & zoom techniques.

The user interface has been very cleverly designed, everything is neatly organised and easily accessible but without cluttering the screen. Overall Sim City is a fantastic game and well worth the price tag.

Those of you that know me or follow me on Twitter will know that I’m pretty obsessed with food and fine dining in particular. I’m not going to review the restaurant & especially the dishes in detail as I did following my visit to Boxwood in Knightsbridge, as I feel this blog has moved on from that time. I don’t want to bore my new readers who see this as a technology blog.

I have been asked many times what I had to eat though so I thought I would list my chosen dishes with a very few quick thoughts on the overall experience compared to the other restaurants.

Maze

Maze is very modern for a fine dining menu, in everything from the ambience and dress code right through to the food. The menu is a ‘tapas’ style tasting menu with individual dishes costing between £8 – £15 each. The chef recommended selecting 2 or 3 starter dishes and 2 main courses. I chose 3 starters and 4 main courses, being a tasting menu I wanted to taste as much as possible!

Love the eel!

Gordon Ramsay MazeAs I said, I won’t be reviewing the food individually, just to say that every single dish was stunning. Standouts were the scallops, both fish main courses – particularly the halibut with black pudding and my favourite dish of the evening and one of my favourites of all time, the smoked eel & fois gois. I’d never eaten eel before but I loved it and can’t wait to have it again.

Not quite…

Finally, some thoughts on the restaurant. Although I enjoyed the food as much as any of the other top restaurants I visited, the overall experience at Maze wasn’t quite as good as the other Gordon Ramsay restaurants i’ve been to. I still had a fantastic time and an average restaurant wouldn’t even come close to it. But after the high standards of Claridges and the 3 Michelin starred Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, Maze didn’t quite live up to them.

It was really only little things such as the staff not being as friendly and approachable but when you pay so much money for a meal the small things make the difference to the overall experience.

I don’t really play many games, I don’t have any consoles anymore and although I have plenty of games installed on my Mac I never actually play them.

It’s been the same with my iPhone, I have installed many games from The App Store, both free and paid for but have never really given any of them much of a chance except Super MonkeyBall which I love.
Asphalt 4 Elite Racing

Today I played Asphalt 4: Elite Racing and was totally blown away by it! It really is stunning!

Amazing Graphics & Sound!

The graphics are fantastic, really not far off what i’ve seen of PSP and Nintendo DS games, for a phone it’s unbelievable. The sound is great as well, it really feels like a proper gaming experience.

Fully Licensed Brands!

I was really impressed that the cars are fully licensed, allowing you to get drive real models from BMW, Aston Martin, Lotus and Ferrari and bikes from Kawasaki and Ducati.

The different cities also look great, there are 9 in total including Shanghai, Paris and Dubai.

Game play

It’s all very well looking and sounding great, but the very best thing about Asphalt 4: Elite Racing is the game play. Driving games are perfectly suited to the iPhones accelerometer but this is even better than the others i’ve tried. It’s really easy to control and loads of fun.

Multi Player

Another great feature is multiplayer over wi-fi! I havn’t had chance to test it yet but i’m glad it’s available and intend on doing so soon.

I would give it a 9/10 and highly recommend it.
