Help Hallelujah To Number One

Posted December 16th, 2008 | 2 Comments

Today I did something that I almost never do.. Pay for something that I already own!

That something was a track called Hallelujah, but no, it wasn’t that horrendous high pitched screeching you may have heard lately or seen on that silly singing show The X-Factor.

RIP Jeff Buckley

It was the truly amazing version of the track by the late Jeff Buckley (RIP). I’m actually a fan of the original Leonard Cohen track too but Buckley takes it to another level and it’s genuinely one of my favourite tracks of all time. According to Last.FM i’ve played it 9 times since April this year, and that was long before Alex whatshername had even thought about it i’m sure!

Unfortunately it’s become tradition for the X-Factor winner to also become the Christmas Number One. Peter Kay is having a go at stopping Alexdifjdif but wouldn’t it be great it we could beat the crap Hallelujah with the Jeff Buckley version?

Power Of The Internet

It’s possible this can happen thanks to the power of the internet! Buckley’s version of the song entered the UK charts at #49 on November 30 and by December 15 it had reached #30 in spite the fact that it had not been released in a physical format. As of this morning (December 16th 2008) Buckleys version of Hallelujah was at #3 in the UK chart on downloads alone.

You Can Help!

Please help by downloading the track (legally), if you like what you hear why not get the album! It’s just 79p from iTunes so there’s no excuse! ;)

According to the facebbok group, if you buy the track from Amazon it won’t be included in the chart – not sure how true that is though!
