iPhone 2.0.2 Update - Big Improvements?

Posted August 19th, 2008 | 5 Comments

I was a little cautious when I saw the 2.0.2 update, i’ve started to think it’s not a good idea to be an early adopter of new updates/services anymore. However my curiosity got the better of me so I allowed iTunes to download the 250mb update.

Bug Fixes?

The update adds no new features and all Apple had to say on the matter was that it contained ‘bug fixes’

I’m happy to report that is does actually seem an improvement. In the 10 hours or so since I updated, my iPhone really does seem to be faster with smoother transitions between screens and a better 3G signal all round.

Most importantly, they seem to have finally fixed the typing lag!

For anybody wondering whether they should update now or wait, I think this time it’s safe to go now!

Since 2.0.2 yesreday I no longer have any ringing sounds. All other sounds seem ok incluidng ring tones when I select them and they demonstrate - BUT when I receive a call the only thing I can get is for the iphone to vibrate!!

    I’m disappointed!!

Nick: That’s a strange one! I’ve not heard any similar reports and it’s definetly not something that’s happening with my own iPhone. Hopefully you will figure it out or there will be a new update soon which fixes the problem for you!

zak: I think I may have spoken too soon with this post. It was made only a couple of hours after the update and it really did seem to have made big improvements, however over time I have realised that the lag is still there. Maybe it’s helped a little or maybe I was imagining it!

I went out and got myself at iPhone 3G on a complete impulse buy yesterday and I got to say I’m impressed all round - until I came to send an sms, its so slow, OK i can hold down the home button to quit it and its ok for 30mins or so and then it comes back i’ve updated to 2.0.2 and it still does it.

It can also be a little sluggish at times too, I hope they get another update out that actually fixes the problems.

And: I’ve not experienced the SMS problem you described, haven’t heard of anything similar either!

I’ve had text lag whilst typing but that’s all, no problems at all with the sending of having to quit anything.

The 2.1 update has been released today and promises to fix lots of these kind of problems.

I’m sure it must be a major upgrade to jump from .02 to .1, fingers crossed!
