  • Christian Bale Will Save Terminator Salvation

    Posted July 19th, 2008 | 5 Comments

Christian Bale In Terminator SalvationTerminator is one of my all time favourite movies. I seem to be one of the few people in the world that actually prefer it to the sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day. That’s not to say I don’t love T2 as well, I do, just not as much as the first.

    End Of The Franchise

Unfortunately, the Terminator franchise ended for me after seeing Terminator 3: Rise or the Machines. OK, it wasn’t the worst film in the world, just distinctly average and definitely not worthy of following the first two classics.

I had very little interest in hearing there was to be a 4th film released in 2009.

    Christian Bale

Until I heard that Christian Bale was involved. The man who I believe has never made a bad film (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin & Reign Of Fire push this statement to the limit, they’re not good but they’re not ‘that bad’). He has been in some great movies, American Psycho, The Prestige, The Machinist, Equilibrium and especially Batman Begins.

    Batman Begins

The Batman franchise was in an even worse state than Terminator, following the disasters that were Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. But thanks to director Christopher Nolan, he revived the franchise and delivered the best Batman film ever in Batman Begins and looks like beating that with The Dark Knight which is released this week (UK).

One of the best things Nolan did was bring in Christian Bale to play Batman, a surprising move but one which worked amazingly well.

    Terminator Salvation

If Christopher Nolan was to direct Terminator Salvation, I have every confidence it would be the best Terminator film ever. Unfortunately he isn’t. But hopefully with Christian Bale on board, Terminator Salvation will be more like Terminator and T2 and much less like Rise Of The Machines. The picture of Christian Bale on the set of Terminator Salvation above (click here for larger version) has already got me excited.

We shall see on May 22nd 2009, for now here’s the first official teaser trailer.

What the hell are you banging on about? The Termintor franchise is alive and well thanks to one man Arnold Schwarzenegger and the new film should definitely have cameo by the man himself. Bale who has done bad films, with reign of fire being by far the worst, will be good for the part but to leave the king of action movies out would be the death of sci-fi cinema.

Christian Bale as John Conner was a great choice but I think that this film was so well researched and advice was sought out by many to make this one bigger than the original Terminator. We will not be disappointed because the film makers seem to be taking their time to get it right — they have a lot to live up to in satisfying die-hard fans. My hope is that this will be a stand alone epic with us wanting the next two to follow. The late Stan Winston worked his magic before his death and I can’t wait to see the fruits of his labor. A 30 second teaser makes me crazy with wonder what the trailer will look like and ultimately the movie. When the End, Begins….the theater audience at Dark Knight lost their minds! Let’s hope more still shots are released soon.

    • Nice post, you got some good points there – thank you.

this new Terminator should be good, if nothing else because Christian Bale stars in it… I hope Arnold ends up making an appearance too
