New Post @ Jigsaw. Let’s Kill IE6!

Hopefully none of you are using Internet Explorer 6 because this site looks REALLY bad in IE6. Due to the use of transparent PNGs and the fact that I can’t be bothered supporting IE6 on a personal site.
Looking at my system logs it seems a few of you still are! Around 12% of this site which is low compared to the 30% usage IE6 has overall.
WHY?
All I can say is WHY? There are so many good free browsers to choose from! My favorite is Firefox (see picture ;) ) but Safari, Opera and even IE7 are all massive improvements on IE6.

Nice post, I wholeheartedly agree with you on this one and don’t feel bad I didn’t worry about PNG display on my site either. Perhaps one day I will get to it and actually set IE6 to replace it with a GIF image that states “Please Upgrade Your Browser, I recommend FireFox”. But for now I’m not to worried. Any nice work, oh and I will say, that’s an excellent way to advertise FireFox.

HA! I completely agree. It drives me insane trying to work with idiotic browsers. I guess people just aren’t aware how rubbish IE is!

AMEN TO THAT!!!
One of the problems is that many people have illigal versions of Windows and can’t get the update to IE 7.
A solution to that is: Go download Firefox!!! It’s much better and faster than IE.

There’s a relatively painless fix here:

It’s a Javascript that will automatically fix all your pngs based on whatever css rule you want to use. There’s a better explanation at the site.

Wessel: As far as i’m aware, earlier this year Microsoft made IE7 a priority update which means that even people with illegal copies of Windows XP could upgrade!
I havn’t tried it personally as I don’t use Windows anymore but if it’s true it can only be good news!
Nice to see some traffic from the Netherlands, I love it there!
Deziner: Thanks for the PNG fix tip, I was actually aware of it and have used it on other sites, to be honest I can’t even be bothered to do that on a personal blog. It was good of you to point it out though and may help others.
