Im Glad I Waited For An iPhone 3G

iPhone

Finally the rumours have turned to reality. At WWDC 2008 Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone 2 or the iPhone 3G as it’s been named.

Apple Fanboy

I’m the first to admit I’m a massive Apple fanboy, I have 3 Macs at the moment including a MacMini Media Center (at the top of my shopping list is a 24: iMac and Time Capsule) and countless iPods. The one product missing for the past year has been an iPhone.

Tough Decision

It was a very tough decision for me last year. Of course the touch screen was amazing and the iPhone looked stunning and I wanted one. I felt that at the current time the iPhone was just not worth the money, due to a few major features lacking , most notably the lack of 3G. Even so, when I watched the queues outside the Apple stores on launch day, I felt I was missing out and have had that niggling feeling ever since. Until today!

Right Decision

Today is the day that my decision was proven to be the right one. Now on July 11th I can queue for a faster, thinner 3G iPhone with GPS, better audio, a proper headphone jack and other improvements. The best bit is that I will get it for half the price of the original last year!

$199 (£100) really is a stunning price.

Thank you Apple!

Shaun, I too was tempted when it first came out. I’m currently seeing out a contract and then i will be purchasing the iphone 3G. I rather geekly watched the apple.com keynote speech (on their site) and some of the new features and the fact that people can now write there own apps for it makes it a must. Just hope they have sorted the battery as i heard in the old one it was needing to be recharged everyday!

I think the battery is one of the big improvements, I hope so anyway!

I listened to the keynote streaming audio live, I felt a bit geeky too! lol

I have crossed out the 11th July in my diary and nothing will get in the way of me purchasing and playing with my iPhone!

You’re are not the only ones I watched the keynote speech too! I am also glad that I have waited for the 3G version of the phone and can’t wait to rush to my local store to get one. I am glad I read this post as I was also concerned about the battery power so it’s great to hear that’s sorted.

I too waited but then again had no choice as they still arent out here in Switzerland. I did have the ipod touch to emulate the experience though.

    Hi David,

Nice of you to comment… hows Switzerland? Are you a football fan? Busy time at the moment?

Will you be able to get an iPhone on the 11th July also?

Hey Shaun, yes following the Euro is great when the matchs are so close, some great ambience here although its a lot less fun without the Swiss team through the 1/8ths as Im sure you can imagine :)

We will be getting the iPhone on the 11th of July which is great news as we skipped forking out for the version without 3G.

It’s a shame that you couldn’t have stayed in a little longer.

A competition is always better with the host team, at least you got to see your team play! Unlike us!

I really like your website by the way! You have a great portfolio too with some big clients!

    Very impressed!
